The County

Vila Nova de Famalicão was born for history on July 1, 1205, with the Foral of D. Sancho I. Many historians refer that the village now called Vila Nova de Famalicão was already, at the time of Portuguese nationality, administrative and judicial seat of the Land of Vermoim.

Located strategically between the cities of Braga, Guimarães and Oporto, Famalicão is a reference city in the Lower Minho and Vale do Ave. With a rich and varied cultural tradition dating back to prehistoric times, the Famalicão community has been affirmed with a proper and well-defined personality.
Vila Nova de Famalicão is today a land often mentioned as one of the main cultural, commercial and industrial centers of the country.

The bridges that embrace the banks of the rivers, the hillsides on the top of the mountains, churches that reflect spirituality, the nobility of the manor houses, the customs and traditions of the earth´s farm, the wealth of handicrafts and gastronomy are a living testimony of a community that builds the future at every moment.

Cradle of the writer Camilo Castelo Branco, Vila Nova de Famalicão is a municipality to know.

Its multifaceted cultural offer - which has its greatest exponent in the House of Arts (Casa das Artes).

The dynamism of its sports associations, its rural and religious tourism, its festivals and pilgrimages, its restaurants, its cultural and industrial heritage...
